Your guide in the Andes Andean culture

Some journeys begin before we know we're walking them

When I was 13, during my school winter break, my mom handed me a backpack. For a few weeks, we moved through the Sacred Valley of Peru — winding along ancient Inca paths, sleeping under Andean skies, breathing air that felt older than memory.

On the final morning of the Inca Trail, I stepped through the Sun Gate and saw Machu Picchu emerge at dawn. Somewhere deep and wordless, I knew these mountains recognized me. That knowing never left.

Years later, pregnant with my son in 2003, I found yoga — and recognized that same feeling. Breath. Body. The sense of coming home to something ancient inside yourself.
